Section 2: Certification qualification criteria to become a Certified EnMS Advisor

The certification qualification criteria are the hurdle requirements that must be cleared before an application for certification will be considered. Meeting these criteria does not mean you will be certified, it simply means that your application for certification will be assessed in detail. Candidates to become a Certified EnMS Advisor must demonstrate that they have experience working on energy efficiency and/or energy management projects. Please note that relevant degree means a bachelor's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline, such as commerce and business, engineering, environmental science, finance, economics, law, marketing or project management.
Experience in energy efficiency and/or energy management is required to become a Certified EnMS Advisor. Additional experience as an EnMS Advisor is required for certification at the advanced level.*

Section 3: Certified EnMS Advisor at the Advanced level

Section 3: Certified EnMS Advisor at the Advanced level

Candidates must have experience of developing and implementing the key elements of an EnMS. This should include experience of item 1 and one of item 2A, 2B or 2C:

1) convincing a business to implement key elements of an EnMS or other relevant experience of the key EnMS elements; and
2A) Implementation of all seven Key Elements of an EnMS with one business with 150+ hours of work undertaken with/for that business; or
2B) Implementation of Key Elements of and EnMS:
• with 75+ hours of work undertaken with/for that business; and
• with 75+ hours of work undertaken with/for that (one or more) other business(es)
All seven Key Elements of an EnMS must be covered across the projects; or
2C) Implementation of:
• Key Elements of an EnMS with 75+ hours of work undertaken with/for that business; and
• a management system (that isn’t an EnMS) with 75+ hours of work undertaken with/for that (one or more) business(es) noting that this could be the same business as the one with the EnMS.
All seven Key Elements of an EnMS (or their equivalent) must be covered across the projects.
The key elements of an EnMS are:
1) Gap analysis/energy diagnostic;
2) Development of an energy policy;
3) Establishment of energy performance indicators (EnPIs);
4) Establishment and/or development of an energy management team;
5) Development of an action plan which is being implemented;
6) Deployment of support mechanisms including training and engagement;
7) Incorporation of energy considerations into purchasing policies.

Please provide details of your experience below. Details must include your role and its relevance to the key elements of an EnMS. Please be mindful of commercially sensitive information or confidentiality obligations to your client and anonymise the details as necessary. You should include details of the dates, sector, details of the project and your role within it and the result of your engagement. Attachments can be included as evidence if referenced. Please provide a referee from one of the projects detailed. This referee will be contacted by the EEC and their response will form part of your assessment.

This section must be completed by all candidates. Only list positions that allowed you to gain experience relevant to the delivery of energy efficiency and/or energy management. You should include details of the dates, sector, details of your role within and experience gained in energy efficiency and energy management. If you need to provide information on more than three (3) roles, please attach details in the final section.

      Section 3: Next Steps

      If your application is found to meet the prerequisites for certification, you will be asked to engage in an in depth assessment process as outlined below.

      Reference Projects

      You will be asked to submit details of a reference project, including client references, as further evidence of your experience. This document is expected to be approximately 1000 words in length.

      Required knowledge

      You will be asked to respond to a series of questions that address the required knowledge associated with the 10 areas of assessment. Responses to each area of assessment are expected to be between 400 and 600 words in length.

      Documentation for interview

      If you are invited to an interview, you are required to bring a set of documentation from an energy efficiency retrofit of a commercial building that you have worked on. You will discuss your documentation with your assessor at the start of the interview. Documentation will be referred to throughout the interview as an example of a real world project you have worked on.

      Documentation must be printed. You may redact any portions of your documentation that you are unable to share due to issues associated with commercial confidentiality, such as the final dollar value of projects. Documents will be reviewed by the assessor during the interview. All documents are returned to you at the interview's conclusion.

      It is not necessary for this documentation to be authored by you, however documentation you have authored is preferable. Documents (or sections of documents) you are not responsible for must be clearly identified.

        The certification qualification criteria are the hurdle requirements that must be cleared before an application for certification will be considered. Meeting these criteria does not mean you will be certified, it simply means that your application for certification will be assessed in detail. Candidates to become a Certified Insulation Installer must demonstrate that they have completed the relevant training units, as specified in the Insulation Sub-Rules.
